- Spoiler:
- Rayne stared at herself criticlly in the mirror. She sighed, and dug her hands deep into her jean pockets. I'll never get used to not wearing a uniform to school, she thought to herself.
"Rayne! If you miss the bus again, then I'm not taking you!"
She ran down the stairs, grabbing her bag off of the coffee table as she went. "See you when I get home!", she called out, running out of the door.
"Wait!"
"What...?", she moaned, backing into the hallway again, "You told me to to go..."
"Have you got everything?"
"Of course I have! Now can I PLEASE go?"
"As long as you haven't forgotten any-"
"I haven't, I haven't!", Rayne assured her mum, as she shut the door and ran down the drive as the bus pulled up. The bus was empty - her house was the first stop. She sat down on one of the long seats and rested her bag on her lap. The corner of her CD was jutting out of the top; she pulled it out. A blonde haired, blue eyed teenager stared out at her, flashing her pearly white teeth, the name 'Lyra Lovato' emblazoned on the cover.
"Rayne! Move up!"
Rayne hastily stowed the CD back into her bag, and moved closer to the window so that her friend Lisa could sit down.
"Oh - you got it!", Lisa squealed, tugging the CD out of Raynes bag, "I can't believe it - they're not even out yet! How did you manage to get one anyway?"
"Oh, well... you know how my uncles a music producer? He actually owns her label."
"What?! Why didn't you ever say that before?"
"Is it important?"
"It's amazing! Hey," Lisa called out the group of girls who had just piled onto the bus, "Come see what Rayne managed to get!"
Rayne sighed and slid down in her seat, staring out of the window as the Los Angeles scenery flew past. It was so different than London where she had grown up, until moving a few years back. She came out of her oblivious daydream as she heard the words "... anyway, did you read the paper this morning?"
Wait... what was on the front page of the paper this morning? It was - oh no... they were talking about it AGAIN...
CHAPTER 2
- Spoiler:
- "The Sailor Senshi, right?", Rayne asked."She actually saved Lyra Lovato, from that fire in her hotel! How lucky is she - she got to meet Lyra Lovato!"
"More like lucky Lyra...", laughed Lisa "She got to meet THE Sailor Senshi! Oh... wouldn't you love to be her?"
"Sailor Senshi?"
"Of course! I mean... she's so famous! And... having superpowers?!"
"And she's supposed to be devastatingly beautiful!" piped up another girl eagerly, pulling a newspaper out of her purse and showing it to the girls.
"But how can you tell?", asked Rayne, pointing at the blurry picture that had been taken by an amateur photographer a few weeks earlier, and had been used in every Sailor Senshi article since. "She's always wearing a mask!
"Well of course she is!", laughed Lisa, "She's dressed as Sailor V, from Sailor Moon - she has to wear the red mask! But anyway - you can totally tell what she's like anyway!"
"From that blurry picture!"
"Trust me - if we saw ever saw Sailor Senshi, we'd know it was her!"
"But of course you would!", laughed Rayne, "She'd be wearing a Sailor Moon outfit!"
"No!", said a boy who had come and sat opposite the large group of girls, "She means Sailor Senshis secret identity!"
"Yeah...", said Lisa thoughtfuly, "Seriously... that's ALL they talk about on TV now... trying to find out who she really is!"
Rayne shrugged, "She might not even HAVE a secret identity though. Isn't it just silly for the police to spend so much time trying to find her?"
"Oh come on!", the boy laughed, "They want to thank her!"
"Or experiment on her!", giggled Rayne dramaticly.
"Don't be silly Rayne... everyone LOVES her! I mean... she's getting her own TV show - 'Sailor Senshi'!" said Lisa excitedley, "So, are you going to the mall tonight? They're holding auditions, and if we get through, we get to go to the final auditions for the show in New York! We're all going except you Rayne - you have to come! You know how good you are at acting!"
Rayne shook her head, "No... my parents would never let me. Anyway, my accents too strong, and I'm awful at faking them."
The bus ground to a halt outside of the school.
"And now yet another day of anguish begins...", sighed Rayne, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
"Yeah... I bet Sailor Senshi doesn't have to go to school.", moaned another girl.
"Well if she has a secret identity she must!" laughed Lisa. "Hey - she could even go to our school! She'd be around 16 like us, right?"
"Oh yeah," said Rayne smiled, "Because I'm really Sailor Senshi and I forgot to tell everyone."
"I'm serious Rayne! She could!"
The girls kept talking about Sailor Senshi all the way to homeroom. "Oh...," gasped Robyn suddenly, checking her bag, "I've left something on the bus - cover for me, OK?"
Rayne ran back to the bus, and tapped on the door just as the engine started again. The driver opened the door and she walked back on, and leant over, scanning the floor. "There it is...", she whispered to herself, "It would have been awful if someone had found this...".
And she picked up a red mask.
CHAPTER 3
- Spoiler:
- Rayne woke with a start as the bell started to ring. Her friends laughed at the startled expression on her face.
"You fell asleep AGAIN?", Lisa asked her incredelously.
"Yeah... well - why didn't you wake me up?"
"Trust me Rayne - you did not want to have to go through that lesson! Anyway - we're all meeting up at 5 outside the mall. You have try out Rayne, seriously! It's every teenage girls dream to play Sailor Senshi these days!"
"Look... I'll come and cheer you all on, but - I just can't try out. I said before... my accents just too strong, and my parents would kill me if they found out."
"Fine..." Lisa sighed in defeat, "But you'll change your mind once we get there!"
No thanks... one famous life is enough for me thanks.
CHAPTER 4
- Spoiler:
- "I feel sick...", murmured Lisa, staring around her.
"Come on Lisa!", Rayne urged encouragedly, completley unphased by the thousands of girls piling around them, "Just think - the chance to play Sailor Senshi... just get through this and you'll be at the auditions in New York!" She waved as their other friends set off to the shops, having decided that this was all to much for each of them.
"But Rayne... there's so many girls here... and the judges!"
"What about them?"
"They're so famous Rayne! I - I can't do this!"
Rayne sighed. She knew that Lisa could do this if she just tried... but, the way things were going...
"Look, Lisa... if I give this a go with you, do you think you could do it to?"
Lisa looked up, suprised, "You'd really do that Rayne?"
"Well, I know that you can do this really well... I just want you to have the best chance you can!"
"Rayne... thanks so much! OK - we can do this then!"
The two girls walked over to the sign up table. It was empty - obviously, everyone who had felt up to signing up had already done so... by the looks of the many crowds of girls staring enviously at the girls entering the backstage area, many people had ducked out at the last minute.
"Umm... hi," said Lisa shyly to the woman at the sign up table, "We can still sign up, right?"
The woman smiled apologeticly at her, "Oh, I'm sorry, but all the girls have just gone through to backstage. I was just about to join them now..."
"Oh, please let us sign up!", pleaded Rayne, "Lisa just had nerves... but I know she's really great!"
The woman turned sharply from Lisa, and peered at Rayne. She looked up and down her.
"Um...what is it?", Rayne asked self conciously, fingering her red curls.
"Just a minute.", the woman pulled out a radio and spoke into it in hushed tones. After a few moments she placed it down. "Well... I suppose under these... special circumstances," she said, still looking at Rayne, "I'll just let you go through. Here are your passes."
"Really? Thank you!", said Lisa excitedley, grabbing their passes. "Come on Rayne!", she pulled her towards the stage. "Rayne - Rayne, what is it?"
Rayne was staring down at her feet, deep in thought. Special circumstances? What did that mean?
"Oh - nothing, silly! Come on, let's go!"
CHAPTER 5
- Spoiler:
- "Aren't you nervous?", giggled Lisa as they stood backstage with the other girls, "I mean... this is so big!"
Rayne smiled, "I'm not really nervous... I mean, I'm only doing this to keep you company!"
"I know, but still - it's kind of scary!"
"Well... it is a bit.", admitted Rayne, thinking how bizarre it was to be nervous about acting as herself. "I wonder what we'll have to do?"
"Don't you know? It was on all the adverts on the TV and papers for the auditions."
"Really? So what do we have to do?
20 minutes later
Rayne bounced on the tips of her toes, more eager then she would have liked to admit to see what was happening at the front of the hall. The girls had been organised into lines, and the judges were walking around them, making notes.
"What do you think they're writing?", Lisa whispered to her, "Doesn't this seem more like a beauty audition then an acting one?"
"I don't think they're taking notes on who's the prettiest... maybe they're checking to see who looks most like the descriptions of Sailor Senshi, if they want it to be authentic..."
A channel executive they recognised from many television conference walked up to them, sharp heels clicking on the floorboards.
"Hello young ladies...", she smiled to the line of girls, "I'm going to need to take your names before I can start making notes."
"Rayne Melkes", Rayne smiled at the woman, before turning to look at Lisa, who was standing very still. "Lisa...", she hissed.
"Oh - um, Lisa Stewart...", she managed to stutter.
The woman walked along the row, asking the girls all of their names and adresses in turn. She even asked strange questions, like the names of their high schools and any martial arts qualifications. Then she turned, stopping once again at every girl and making short notes. She stopped once she reached Lisa again, and peered down at her clipboard. "Lisa wasn't it? Well... we think you have the look we are searching for... I'll be back with the forms soon." The woman walked to the next row, leaving behind an incredibly stunned Lisa.
"Lisa!", squealed Rayne, "You did it! Isn't that amazing!"
"I can't believe it! Thanks so much Rayne - I wouldn't even have entered if you hadn't of!"
The woman who had talked to Lisa was now speaking quietly with a group of important looking men. She turned and pointed in their direction.
"Lisa - they're pointing at you!", Rayne gasped in delight, "They must think you're really great!"
"Oh my gosh... do you think - wait, why are they coming over here?"
CHAPTER 6
- Spoiler:
- The group of men in suits were walking towards them, the women leading them. They stopped just ahead of them, peering at some notes she had taken.
"Hello again girls.", she smiled at the two of them. "We'd really like to have a talk with the two of you - would it be okay if you came with us?"
"Oh," said Rayne, suprised, "Of course... but, um, why exactly?"
The woman smiled down at her... it really was uncanny how long she could stretch her mouth for. "We're very interested in the two of you... out of all the girls here, you are by far the most suited to our main role.", she turned and looked at Rayne. "Is that a London accent?"
"Yeah... that's where I come from."
"It's a rather intriguing accent... one which we think is very well suited to the mysterious character of Sailor Senshi. And you both have impressive martial arts qualifications... I'm sure you know that our main character would need to have these skills. And most importantly, your structure and features are very similar to what we know of the Sailor Senshi. Overall, we would appreciate it very much if you two would accept invitations to our professional New York auditions. There'll be many girls there who have been picked from auditions from across the country."
"Wha- really?", asked Lisa excitedley, "We'd love to - wouldn't we Rayne?"
"Fantastic,", said the woman, without waiting for Rayne to answer, "We already have your numbers and adresses, so we'll be contacting your parents or guardians soon. In the meantime, we'll be giving you some rough scripts and costume designs, as well as character back info. You can pick them up from the women over there,", she finished pointing behind the stage. "Oh - and congratulations."

! (Never gave you much of a chance to guess though did I :).) I had to make Kelin (the bodyguard I was talking about yesterday) promise that if I made a run for Orlando, he'd knock me out before I got the chance, so I wouldn't have to go through the whole 'restraining order' thing :) So, what time is your interview? I so hope it goes well and you get the part of Nina... we'd have so much fun! Fingers crossed for the both of us
(Oh yeah - two words... SODA FOUNTAIN! IN MY HOTEL ROOM! When we get back to LA we so have to get one... although I may be getting a little addiction problem...)
