And the entire server was deserted, and I was the only one there. I imagine that it had something to do with the fact that I had logged on at late night, but that still doesn't answer to my chat bubble problem. Please help.

Relax. Its the first day of BETA testing and I'd say about 85-90% of people are having the same problem. I haven't seen anyone on there all day and I can't type at all either. It took me hours just to log in the first time.
Give it a couple days and things will start coming into place little by little. :D

I kinda have the same problem. I can sometimes see some people in the room, or none at all...But I can always see the chat...but rarely can I see mine I really just wanna find my friends, like I saw one of my VMK friends in a room there...well I saw him type his name in the chat box, not so much see him...and I couldn't type back! I was reallllllly mad...And I really hope they fix this soon

I experienced the same problems too. It took me hours and hours to get into this one room,(it looked like an outdoor market of some sort), and whenever I would exit it, I would enter back into some town room and would be hanging on the side of the wall!!!! Of course I would be stuck there and had to restart the whole process over....just trying to get back into the game!. Patience, I know, patience!

You were experiencing the "Can't talk or see people" bugs. There were people there, but you couldn't see them. I'm sure there will at least be one person online at all times. Unless VFK is closed.

Yea .. I think we all ( or at least most of us) have experince the no walk or no talk bugs at one or another. I have. But again we need to rememeber that we are beta testers and the game is still in beta...so things like this is going to happen.
Of course we all are very excited about this game and be on there and be able to talk and see everyone. BUt in time we will and we will look back at all this and say "Do you rememeber when...." :D

It's not a bug or a glitch. They put it in single user mode so you can go in, but can't chat or see others. The info is on their home page:
An update from the developers:
We want to keep you up to date on our upgrade, as when we are done it will mean we will have 100 times more capacity at any moment to support our new virtual world.
One of the routers which we are installing this evening is not working correctly, and we are going to have to wait till tomorrow morning to get a replacement. We will keep you updated on the progress of the upgrade.
Your development team
P.S. We have left the game up for you in single user mode on one of our servers, in case you would like to walk around and check out any of the details in the game while we are upgrading the rest of the servers and setting up the new network.
